Orin's Accident

All the boys Orin's age at school are addicted to baseball right now. They have been making up all kinds of games where they can throw balls and run bases. The other day some of them asked the principal, Mr. Freeman, if they could play with a bat. He gave them permission as long as there were no fights over it. Today at recess they were taking turns batting when Orin, the next in line, got too close to the batter. The batter took a great big swing and WACK!! Orin's head took a hit. Orin said that one minute he was standing in line and then the next he was on the ground. Needless to say, they are no longer allowed to play with the bat. The boys turned it in right then and there. Orin's head immediately started bleeding like crazy. (I guess head wounds bleed a lot.) His poor teacher, Miss Davenport, doesn't do well around blood and had a hard time steadying herself so she could help Orin. The school nurse got the bleeding in control but the head wound needed closed up or stitched. When I arrived Orin was sitting calmly and collectively just waiting for me. I decided that I didn't think I could steri-strip it properly so I took him straight to the doctor's office. Once the doctor got the hair trimed and out of the way she showed me the wound. I was surprised to see that it went all the way to the skull. It was a pretty small wound, just really deep. It only took 1 stitch to close it up. Orin looks to be okay now and doesn't show any signs of a concussion. I think he feels lucky to have gotten out of school early and is milking the whole thing. (I let him play the X-Box.)

Poor kid! It's sad enought just to see the picture. But it sounds like he was pretty tough about the whole thing.

Poor Orin! He has a head of steel. Talk about being indestructible! Hope he doesn't have a massive headache.
