Marlins vs. Mariners

On Saturday, after accomplishing a million different things, (scrapbooking class, funeral musical number, grocery shopping, chasing down kids, etc.) I headed to the ball park to cheer at Orin's first baseball game of the season. I was a tad bit late but thankfully I only missed a part of the first inning. It wouldn't have looked very good if the team mom (Jake is the team dad) wasn't there. The stands were crowded and I had to climb over people to find a seat but, as luck would have it, I found a spot big enough for both me and Jake. I quickly settled in for the long haul with my caffeine-free diet coke and six-inch subway sandwich. Orin's team, otherwise known as the "Marlins" were all decked out in their teal shirts, striped pants, teal socks, and black hats. They looked great out there on the field. Every year I learn a little more about the rules of baseball and all the little quirky things about it that make it America's pastime. But I will admit that I don't know a lot about it. I just know that you need to hit the ball, run the bases, and make it to home plate. Or, if you are on the other team, you need to catch the ball, throw the ball, and tag the players (Jake is reminding me right now, that you can force the players out too sometimes.) Anyways, I may not make a great coach because I don't know enough about the game and I'm too nice, but I am a great cheerleader. I have tons of team pride and I try and learn who all the boys are. I give encouragement from the stand with lots of enthusiasm. To make a long story short, it was during one of my great cheers, that I unfortunately yelled out (yelled being the keyword) to our team, "GO MARINERS". I think the visiting team stand, which is where we were, got silent. All eyes were on me. Jake quickly leaned over and said, "Kara, we are the Marlins not Mariners." I think every parent in that stand thought I was crazy or drunk (I think some of them checked to see what I was drinking). I immediately apologized and yelled out, "I mean GO MARLINS!" The stand erupted in laughs. And throughout the rest of the game everyone called me "The Mariners Lady". I felt silly especially because I am the team mom. I am pretty sure that my great cheer will take first place in the little league baseball history awards as "Worst Cheer Ever!" Next time I will try to think before I yell out something stupid for the whole world to hear.

Your story was so funny. I like the part when you messed the team name up. Me and Orin loved that part and how every person looked at you and thought you might of been drunk. So they all checked your drink. Me and Orin laughed our head off. It was FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY.
Love,
Orin And Adia Sommer

I hope the opposing team wasn't called Mariners. Maybe you just forgot where you were. Anyway the enthusiasm was transmitted.
