Tuesday night was the Pinewood Derby. He worked hard at designing and building his car. He sure was proud of it. He made it all by himself. It started with a design he drew on a peice of paper and developed into a great pinewood derby car. He did have a little parental guidance when it came to cutting and painting it. Jake assisted with the saw, and I showed him how to control a can of spray paint, which is my specialty. Once we got to the church and the car was weighed, pennies were taped on to make it a bit heavier. It was quite the stiff competition racing against the other cars and Orin didn't get first place but he didn't get last place either. Orin had to practice his good sportsmanship because he wanted to win soooo badly (he mentioned before we left that he had butterflies in his stomach) and it was hard when he didn't win a lot of the heats. He definately should be proud of his attitude and his car.
Orin is my reader. He loves to read. In fact, he is often found "sneak reading" at night when he should be sleeping. This week he finished the last book in the Harry Potter series. He started the first one several months ago and said he wanted to finish all of them by the time the new movie comes out. He did it! He took AR test on all of them and passed them all with flying colors so we know he understood the books. Currently he has 190 AR points. (That is tons and tons and tons.) He has a few individual books lined up to read next but when he finishes those, he wants to start on the Narnia books.
Notice there are only 6 books in the stack....Adia, my sweet scatterbrain, has misplaced #2. She is ALWAYS misplacing things. It drives me crazy!
