This past Summer I had the great opportunity to spend some quality time with a few of my dearest friends. My loving husband is SUPER kind and lets me vacation without him. (He has to work to support my traveling needs so he can't go. Bummer.) I take the kids and all their stuff and head off to travel the country. And, he lets me. Wow. He's nice.
Just one of the friends I visited was my adolescent companion, Heather. The first memories I have of her were in the 6th grade, or perhaps it was the 5th grade. Anyhow, we spent many a sleepover, late night, afternoon, etc, together. I love this girl. What an incredible example she has been to me.
Her life is so different than mine. I never did finish college. She did. I got married. She didn't. She went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I didn't. Her Mom has passed on. My mom is still... (How should I put this?) alive. She is the world's best aunt. I'm not. She has a huge bucket list. I don't even have one. She does marathons and triathlons. I don't even want to. She can text and drive at the same time. I can't, nor would I. She has friends around the world. I only have friends in the United States. Trust me. We are different. But in our hearts, we are the same. (Right Heather?)
In the past few years Heather has spent time in Africa helping and loving the people there. Her experiences are unbelievable. Check out her blog and see for yourself.

If I watch the news, or discuss politics, or read "The Beat", I get a bit overwhelmed. I can barely handle all the horrible stuff that happens out in the world. But... I live in a little bubble with my family and I love it. I sometimes feel as though the world might come crashing down around me. And I pray that it doesn't "pop" my bubble. Heather's life reminds me that there is not just the bad and ugly in the world, but also much beauty and good. President Faust said, "Women affect so very much of what happens in the world for good or otherwise." This is true. Heather has shown me that.
President Monson said, "My beloved brothers and sisters, fear not. Be of good cheer. The future is as bright as your faith." People like Heather keep the future looking bright! Thanks girly!!

What a sweet post. Aren't we lucky to have Heather in our lives? Her experiences keep me grounded. Help me remember what matters most. I'm already excited for the next time the 3 of us get to hang out.
